"HOMO TRANS-RETRO" is a 12 second digital MP4 artwork featuring the transformation of a series of physical objects into a dynamic audiovisual digital collage

The conceptual theme of the piece is to propose the next evolution of humankind from 'Homo Sapiens' into the transhumanist form of 'Homo Trans-Retro' - a post-gender cyber-amalgam of biology and computer code. However, Home Trans-Retro as a species borrows stylistically from the past while embracing technological futurism. This paradox of retro-utopianism is a key theme of my conceptual work, and a comment on contemporary culture, society, and geo-politics...both subjectively and objectively.

The video artwork is a digital collage of physical objects including a vintage shop mannequin, a MUSIC GRAFFITI painting and a series of retro audiovisual equipment. All the objects are from a personal collection of ephemera, and were scanned or photographed/videoed into a digital environment before undergoing a series of manipulations.

The visual background to the video was generated from a distortion mix of the original 'MUSIC GRAFFITI' painting ‘G Major V’.

The 'PHREAK MUSIC' feedback soundtrack was generated by scanning the original painting through two visual synthesizers and then manipulating the results into audio stems that are then mixed into one channel. 

This is part of a process of "Feedback Loop Creativity" that is central to my work.


HOMO TRANS-RETRO will be exhibited at the Rare Effect #3 Exhibition at Arroz Estudios in Lisbon Oct/Nov 2022, organised by Art Progression Now. 30% of proceeds to the initial sale will be routed directly to the Rare Effect wallet on NEAR.
